A transformative leader and award-winning journalist, Ishmael-Perkins will lead C&EN into its next 100 years as it expands its digital and global presence as a trusted and preeminent source of scientific news.

Ishmael-Perkins comes to C&EN from the International Science Council where he has served as a senior consultant since 2021. Previously, he worked as director of SciDev.Net, where he spearheaded the platform’s digital growth with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Through his work, he has developed a stellar reputation for expertly protecting editorial independence and audience trust while facing business and organizational changes. With a global perspective and extensive experience in organizational development, Ishmael-Perkins is well-suited to guide C&EN’s team through global growth and success in the century ahead.

Ishmael-Perkins joins C&EN on the heels of its centennial year and following the sudden passing of previous editor-in-chief Mohammed Yahia. He will formally join C&EN in February of 2024.
